From The Ground Up: A First-Principles Approach To Art Direction

In this session we will start with a brief but eye-opening introduction to the history of visual design, before we question just about everything you think you know about art direction.
We will discuss a variety of methods for breaking down fuzzy creative goals, and using lenses in order to learn elemental things about the game we are making. Along the way we’ll also discuss some counter-intuitive advice like why art direction is not about art. We then take all these insights and use them to construct the process that creates the game. 
This is a talk for people looking to move into creative leadership across all disciplines of art, for those who are already art directors, and should also be informative to other creative leaders in game design, audio, and tech art.
